Medical Stuffs...

We have this project which I have to do after exam called Student Selected Component (SSC) which is more or less like this thing we did back in IM, Special Study Module (SSM). It is a 5-weeks research study where we get to do any research topic we want - for eg last time in my 2nd year, I did a research on Obesity Prevention Program in Primary Schools in Brunei. So we are allowed to do this SSC anywhere we want, Edah and Syuk are going to do theirs in Brunei while me, I've decided to do mine here, in Glasgow. Bukan inda mau balik or anything, but I thought it would be wiser for me to do this here, 'widening my horizon', plus I've done this before in Brunei, so why not in Glasgow. Anyhow, I'm going back to Brunei for my electives jua.

Decision made. I'm staying for another month to do this. Next is choosing the topic. Actually, I want to do something related to Obs and Gyne, self-proposed my own topic. Regretfully, I've been "busy" with other things, so I resort to choosing the modules the medical schools provided instead. My first option was Gynecological Cancer Research --> which I did get!!! Surprised and speechless I was, because I'm sure there were hundreds others who want this as well, but I got it. So I was happy and super duper excited you know with this news...but unfortunately, the good happy me died when I was told that the supervisor cancelled the module because they're having some dept and staff changes and hence weren't able to accomodate me! WAWAWAWA...To make things worst, my 2nd and 3rd options were cancelled too! WAWAWAWA...

Later on, I emailed the coordinator, asking for modules which are conducted in a hospital nearby. Seriously, I don't want to be doing a project which requires me to travel and commute long distance. If i've known this, I would have done this in Brunei inda ja? So there I was, emailing this Catherine lady, almost as if pleading to give me modules at nearby hospital. When i did got her email, she gave me this list of modules left available, and thank god...i mean really thank GOD I got few good options. So now, I've got everything sorted - I'll be doing something on Rheumatology and Connective Tissue Disease particularly Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). It's not that bad really...infact more organised than my former module. And good thing about it, I get to go to the hospital via shuttle bus - meaning its free!!! LOL.

Anyway, I know this one kinda boring to read but i thought it might be useful for those who are doing medicine as well. Afterall, my blog is called Farah's Anatomy and Physiology...so I'm sure ppl were expecting something medical out of this blog.

Bah eyh, gotta go. Need to go to library do my report :(

Horror Movies Marathon

It's Monday. It's the start of the week which I promised myself to start my revision. I will. Later when the sun's down :P

I just had a resuscitation sessions this afternoon with Edah @ Victoria Infirmary. It was alright, less intense than I had expected it to be. Revisited the Basic Life Support including the use of Ambo mask and defibrillator and also had a feel of how the OSCE Resuscitation will be tested. Apparently the medical students here were not asked to go for some sort of BLS / First Aid Training like those that were required when I was in IM. Owh well, a good revision for us i supposed. It turned out my BLS certificate expires this month!

Owh yea, almost forgot what I wanted to blog about. Last weekend, I've been watching a series of horror movies LOL. Watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose - a good horror movie, didn't get to watch this last time and was fascinated how good the actress were...gosh...scary. Even watched bits and pieces of the original exorcism movie - The Exorcist, which was equally good. The funny thing is that watching the exorcism was bad enough to scare me and I still crave for malay horror movies. Seen Anak, the movie by Erra Fazira, not that scary la, reminds me of Ju-On but some scary scenes still stucked with me :S What else...watched one zombie-ish movie, and few other malay horror movies that I've seen before. The marathon was getting to me that it went to a point where my guy friends had to accompany me to go to the loo! (nothing kinky, jadi bodyguard dluar pintu saja hahaha). During those 3 days of horror marathon, I have been sleeping with companies...I wonder how it would be tonight .. :S happy happy thoughts...

My Bewtipoool Ear~

Did otoscopy and ear examination last Monday - it was entertaining. I did this before back in IM UBD, so this would be a revision for me. What's cool about it is that the faculty got this otoscope with camera in the end, just like a endoscopy but for the ear. So we took some pictures of our ear and thanks to Edah, she brought her camera so we all can see how beaaaaautiful my ears are kekekkeke..

Geeky mode:

My friends said that mine is so clear that they can see almost everything that should be seen in a normal otoscope examination including the handle of malleus, a clear transparent eardrum, a shadow hint of the handle of incus, the chordae tympanae and even the anterior part of my ear - which is often blocked by our temporal mandibular jaw.

What I'm trying to say is that...i'm proud of my ear :D

Friday I begin...

Holiday's over officially today and I'll be starting my new semester. I have lectures to attend at 9am and PBL at the hospital at 1:30pm. Funny isn't it, I don't know why they decided to have us start today when we could be starting on 12th. Today we start, then the following days are weekend and then Monday, no class. Why why why??? I don't mind starting, but its the travelling part to the hospital is what bugging me. It's bloody exhausting.

Ok, i'll stop whining. It's a new year and I'll learn to start my day with a huge smile plastered on my face, no matter what.

Oh yea!!! Ok, there's one reason why I'm writing up this post, the IRN BRU CARNIVAL!!!

FYI - IRN BRU is a brand name of a drink. Apparently its really famous here, like COKE and PEPSI famous. In fact, I think it's much more famous than those two. Anyway, the carnival has been going on since December actually, but we - as in the Glasgow Bruneians - decided to go this Saturday, which is tomorrow! I'm looking forward on this one, because...............there're gonna be RIDES!!!!!!! Wippeeee~~~~
